Re-imagining mini-golf

Type

Prototyping Studio project

Timeline

January 2026 - March 2026

Team

Rakshit, Meera, Gracia

Scope

Interactive game (Figma Make), engineering (CPX), prototyping

Context

Our project reimagines mini golf as a Secret Nasa (SNASA) emergency mission where players guide atomic energy through a launch preparation system to assemble an atomic bomb and launch a rocket to destroy an incoming asteroid.

WHAT I DID
  • Suggest idea of using mini-golf as an educational experience

  • Built interactive game interface using Figma make

  • Assisted building a physical set

  • Learned how to build things with the circuit

01. Final outcome

See how people enjoyed our prototype!

02. Building process

From field research to user testing

From field research to user testing

  1. Field Research

  1. Idea critique

  1. Test two selected ideas

This video shows our team testing the rapid prototype of CPX sensing the balls

  1. Start building

  1. Wizard-of-OZ playtest

Developed Wizard-of-Oz methods to simulate automated system responses, allowing us to test interaction ideas before implementing real automation.

  1. Prototyping show

Almost 30 people tested our prototype, and we were recognized as one of the top 3 interactive prototypes in our cohort!

Takeaway

What I learned

  • Prototyping became a way to think through ideas by making, testing, and iterating.

  • Each checkpoint helped move the project from early concept to a more complete interactive experience.

  • User testing revealed gaps we couldn’t see ourselves (e.g., clarity, flow, engagement).

This project was a challenging yet rewarding experience that emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication. As a long-term project, we had to continuously align on design direction and make compromises to balance user needs with technical constraints.

Open discussions and A/B testing helped us refine our choices and find common ground. I learned the value of flexibility and collaboration, ensuring that our decisions remained focused on creating a user-centered, impactful design while fostering a productive team dynamic.
